The HIV-AIDS Working Group of the Somali Support Secretariat was formed in September 1999. Since
then, this working group has expanded to include not
only those agencies working in the health sector but
also other sectoral stakeholders working on a range
of awareness raising and preventive concerns.
Through the advocacy efforts and initiative of this
Working Group, and the gradual strengthening of
political commitment to HIV/AIDS and related issues,
similar zonal coordination fora have been
established in the Northwest (Somaliland) and
Northeast (Puntland) zones of Somalia.
